What is a Biopsy?

A biopsy is a medical procedure in which a small sample of tissue is taken from the body to diagnose a disease, monitor its progression, or determine treatment options. While it is most commonly used in the diagnosis of cancer, it can also be performed for infections, inflammations, and other tissue disorders.

Types of Biopsies:
Needle Biopsy: A thin needle is used to collect a tissue sample.
Endoscopic Biopsy: Tissue is collected through an endoscope equipped with a camera.
Surgical Biopsy: A larger tissue sample is removed through a surgical procedure when necessary.

Biopsies play a vital role in accurate diagnosis and in creating appropriate treatment plans. It is a critical step for early detection.
